Cost of Building a Custom Stunt Scooter

As the price of scooter parts ranges significantly, the price of your custom-built stunt scooter might range significantly as well. A custom-build is also often more expensive than a pre-built stunt scooter, which could factor into your decision to embark on a custom-build journey. On average, the low-end of a custom stunt scooter will range from $200 to $300, and a higher-end custom build will cost $500 to $600.

Instructions

Building a custom scooter is a series of putting parts together, almost like building a LEGO set. Instead of clicking together like bricks, these pieces come together with bolts that need to be tightened. There’s a certain order that you should follow when you do so, and you should expect to spend about 2-3 hours putting together your stunt scooter.

  • Putting the grip tape on your deck is a preferred first step because it’s easiest to put grip tape on without the deck being attached to any other components.
  • You now need to install the fork of your scooter. The fork gets joined to the headset and the headtube of the deck. The bottom bearing of the headset gets placed over the fork, and then the second bearing and compression ring also get placed on the fork. Then, you should place the top cap of the headset onto the fork.
  • Depending on your compression, you will need to either (IHC) put on the compression and then tighten the compression bolt on the top of the fork or (SCS) put the SCS clamp on the fork and put the compression bolt into the clamp and tighten.
  • The wheels and bearings are supposed to be put on next. For both wheels, the axles should be removed from the wheels, and then the bearings need to be inserted. Then, replace the axle and tighten it.
  • Next, the bar needs to be placed. Remove the clamp from the headset and fasten the bar back into the clamp and headset. Be sure to line up the bar and headset before tightening. Then, you should place the handlebar grips on your handlebars. These grips can be tricky to get on, so most people use an air canister to create some extra space while sliding the grips on the bar. Other methods include rubbing alcohol or dish soap and water.
  • Finally, test out your new custom-built stunt scooter. Make sure that everything is properly tightened and lined up, and you should be good to go!
